The Cast of The Year of Living Dangerously

Mel Gibson (Guy Hamilton)
Mel Gibson's second collaboration with Peter Weir after portraying the runner Frank Dunne in Gallipoli. This, and more significantly George Miller's The Road Warrior, first brought him to the attention of the general US audiences. After the less than spectacular reception of such films as The Bounty, Mrs. Soffel, and The River, Lethal Weapon and the subsequent sequels solidified his place as a box office star. Other memorable films include Hamlet, The Conspiracy Theory, and Ransom. He has also proven himself to be a talented director with The Man Without a Face and the Oscar winning masterpiece Braveheart.

Linda Hunt (Billy Kwan)
Peter Weir had great difficulty finding someone appropriate for the role of Billy Kwan. Unable to recreate the Billy Kwan character in his film, he wanted to find a way of equaling the originality of the character. Casting Linda Hunt in the role accomplished that. The decision seemed to pay off as well, as she won as Oscar for her portrayal of the secretive and frustrated man. She can also be seen in such films as Dune, Silverado, She-Devil, Kindergarten Cop, If Looks Could Kill, and the voice of Grandmother Willow in Pocahontas.

Sigourney Weaver (Jill Bryant)
If you look quick, you can see her for a split second in her screen debut at the end of Woody Allen's Annie Hall. She stormed onto movie screens several years later with her portrayal of Ripley in Alien and the sequels (most notably Aliens) which followed. She has been nominated for several Academy Awards, including twice in one year for Working Girl and Gorillas in the Mist. Other memorable films include Ghostbusters, Dave, Death and the Maiden, Copycat, and The Ice Storm.
